Since 1972 the Robbinsdale Area Schools through the Adult Academic Program of Community Education has provided basic education and assessment services to thousands of community residents. During the 2004-2005 school year more than 1900 learners received instructional service at program sites and 290 adults took the GED Test Battery through the local testing center.
Classes located in the Winnetka Learning Center in New Hope provide the general public with a wide range of instructional programming including GED, ELL classes, high school diploma and the Family Learning Program serving parents and their children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years. The Winnetka Learning Center is also the site of the GED testing center. Courage Center provides adapted instructional service to learners with physical and/or sensory impairments.
Educational services have always been free and open to individuals over the age of 16 and who are not enrolled in a regular school program. Instruction has allowed flexible attendance by learners, has focused on the learners personal goals, has employed participatory learning strategies, has encouraged the utilization of technology and has given the adult student control over both the content and pace of learning.
